Tour Divide
I had never heard of this race before it showed up on the TBARC message board. The Tour Divide is a mountain bike race from Canada to Mexico, following roughly the continental divide.
All I can say is wow. Follow the Tour Divide - make sure you check out their leaderboard, powered by SPOT.
Gas prices, going green, and riding a bike
Had an interesting morning - I rode my bike to work for the first time ever. It was about ten miles, all sidewalks, took about 20 extra minutes, and was a bit refreshing in terms of getting some morning exercise.
My goal over the summer is to average 3-4 days a week, saving about 1 gallon of gas per round trip. Also an added bonus was that I discovered that the place has a shower. Maybe, just maybe I can up it to five days a week and get rid of the second car!
OT: Why we are parents
So this is very off topic but please bear with me - you'll have to because it's my blog :)
This is my son Ryan, soon to be big adventurer guy. He loves going out in the woods, loves canoing, loves catching frogs and lizards, thrives on playing with caterpillars and ladybugs. This is him in the rain playing in the mud - we thought it was a quintessential boy picture - the kind of fun every dad wants to see their kid having. Enjoy.
National Geographic Review of SPOT
National Geographic just wrote a nice review on the SPOT device. The article is pretty comprehensive and persuasive on why to get one if you are into going places where cell coverage is non-existent.
From the article: "SPOT costs $170" - OE has them for $124 using code SHOPSPOT :)
Have a good Memorial Day out there.
